Fashion-let jewelry My first Strombus aratrum was collected on Mandi Darrah Island in November 1960. My second was a beach-washed specimen at Siquati near the very tip of the West Coast, in December of the same year. Since then I have collected several very fine specimens at various places (see map) between these two points but have never found a trace of this species either further east or further west. Mr. Gay's specimen comes from an island almost exactly halfway between them. Natives on both east and west coasts have always told me that they have never seen this shell and it does seem to me to be concentrated in this extreme northern tip of the island.
