Fashion clams Bobby Lee is executive secretary of the State Boxing Commission, and an inveterate shell collector. Paul Fujimoto runs a wood-working establishment and his hobby also, is shell collecting. Through their mutual interest, the two men have been friends for years. In the course of his working with hardwoods, Paul has made a number of replicas of Philippines shells. True to form in every detail, these wooden replicas have been exhibited at the Shell Fairs for the past two or three years. One day Paul wondered why he could not make a shell replica out of black coral, assuming that he could find a piece large enough. He talked the idea over with Bobby who agreed to try and find a section of a stump of a black coral tree large enough for Paul to work on. So Bobby made frequent trips to Maui where he contacted Harold Hall, of Lahaina, and explained the idea which Paul had developed. Fashion clams

The Reunión government reportedly banned all diving and adopted strong restrictions on shell exports similar to those then being enforced by neighboring Mauritius. The supply of the coveted shell dried up. No more were being collected off South Africa, either. Fashion clams
