Handmade component parts Off Waikiki and the Ala Moana HMS member Don Johnson recently collected two Cypraea chinensis, an excellent specimen of C. tessellata, and C. schilderorum. He wound up the week with a fine, recently dead, C. cernica marielae. In the same area Jim Jones, another recent HMS member has collected both chinensis and tessellata. And Dr. Ferguson, of Tripler Army General Hospital, collected chinensis, tessellata, gaskoini, and a fine Bursa bufonia. Then to make us all feel good, or bad, he made a dive off Makaha and came up with three tessellatas and a schilderorum - from 35 feet of water. Via the swapping route Dr. Ferguson also collected a Cypraea tigris (schilderiana, no doubt) measuring 5-5/8 inches long, just 1/8 inch less than the record for this species. A truly beautiful shell.
