Natural abalone and lavander shell We decided to investigate the other tooth. Trevor went ahead of us and was already anchored close as we approached. Suddenly, without warning, a great mound of water about forty feet high rose ahead of us. Foamy flecks tumbled across its peak as it began to crest. I shoved the throttle forward and hauled the wheel over to port in time to dodge along its shoulder. But Trevor was anchored right in its path. We saw Dennis on the foredeck, anxiously looking over his shoulder as he tried to raise the anchor. The great wave lifted the little boat to its peak and crested. Our hearts were in our mouths as we watched our companions rise up the face of that wall of water. After an awful moment, however, we saw them floating safely in the calm water of the trough. We had fully expected to be salvaging the pieces on the other side of the rocks. Natural abalone and lavander shell

As busy as she was Elizabeth took time to send some striking photos of live sea shells collected in the Dar Es Salaam area of East Africa, the westernmost extension of the Indo-Pacific molluskan province. Of the shells, she says, "A mixed bag, typical of the good days of shelling in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Living species in this slide include Cypraea lamarcki [left], C. lynx [top], C. vitellus dama [bottom center], C. carneola sowerbyi [upper right], C. cribraria comma [center] , C. limacina [lower right] and, now showing the jet black mantle, Trivia oryza [right, middle]."
