Philippines handmade native "We enter the water at one end, and begin our search. Uncover many Cypraea, of the common varieties, such C. histrio, C. maculifera, C. arabica, C. erosa, C. caputserpentis, C. helvola, C. poraria, and C. moneta. Working in 8' of water, I find a large adult Conus tulipa Linné. For a moment there I thought it just another sea cucumber. It is covered with a very thin translucent periostracum, with upright tufts in several equally spaced lines on the body whorl. The animal is fully exposed with proboscis extending a full inch from the shell. Color of the animal being a pale flesh pink with blotches of maroon over the entire body. The proboscis marked in similar fashion. I pick it up and place in my canvas pouch. It is a very active shell, and has to be forced back to the bottom on several occasions to prevent escape.
