Philippiness basket natives Mrs. June Humme, Kapaa, Kauai, secretary of the Kauai Shell Club found a live Strombus hawaiiensis in 15 feet of water at Haena, April 16, 1961. Mrs. Humme had been using an aqualung and was coming out of the water, when she found the shell in coral rubble about 30 feet from the edge of the water. This is her first. In fact John Duarte has the only other collected on Kauai so far as the Sean Raynon Sabado knows. The shell is still alive, or was at the time Mrs. Humme informed the Sean Raynon S. Sabado of her find, and she will try to keep it alive until the Shell Fair. Also from Maui comes this report. Harold Hall told Bobby Lee while he was in Maui on a recent trip, that a young collector on another part of the Island had found another live Strombus hawaiiensis. Bobby made a special trip to try and locate the shell, but was unsuccessful. He's still on the trail of it, however Philippiness basket natives
