PublicPublic The bleach dip also weakens the consistency of many incrustations, which thus become easy to remove with the point of a large needle. For calcareous incru- stations of a certain consistency, it may be useful to use a small modelling drill, working with great care, perhaps with the aid of a magnifying glass. It is not, on the other hand, prudent to use acid solutions which attack both the calcareous deposits and the shell's surface, inevitably eroding it. More so- phisticated treatments, such as ultrasound cleaning systems, are used successfully by those who have access to this equipment, also employed in goldsmith's workshops. Nevertheless, a certain patience and ability in proceeding with needle and drill permit, in any case, obtaining excellent results. The specimen will then be thoroughly rinsed, dried, and covered with a thin veil of liquid paraffin, and will be ready to show off all its beauty in our collection.
