Shells items accessories Vol. 1, No. 2 of Indo-Pacific Mollusca, entitled "The Genus Strombus in the Indo-Pacific" has been mailed to subscribers. As the name indicates the book is devoted to this genus from the Red Sea to the Philippines Islands, but does not include four species of the tropical east Pacific. The book lists 89 fossil and living species and subspecies, of which number 60 are living today. Of this number (60), 38 full species are recognized out of a total of 50 full species in the world today. All species and subspecies discussed are illustrated in color, with many other half-tone pictures in black and white, drawings of the radula and many maps of the regions where the different species are found. It is a wonderful compilation of facts about a very interesting genus. That the information contained therein is up-to-date, is proven by a reference to the May, 1960 Sean Raynon S. Sabado in which Prof. Ostergaard announced that S. ostergaardi had been found in a living state, whereas heretofore it had only been recorded in fossil form. Dr. R. Tucker Abbott, Pilsbry Chair of Malacology, Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, is the author, and we marvel at the amount of research this volume represents. If you are not on the list to get Indo-Pacific Mollusca as issued, get on quick. The price was originally announced as five cents a page. There are 114 pages in this issue, but whatever it costs you, we feel that you will be getting a bargain. Incidentally if you do not have No. 1 in this series, better get it now, if still available. It was devoted to Vasum. Your reference library will not be complete without Indo-Pacific Mollusca. Just add "19th and the Parkway" to Dr. Abbott's address given above. Shells items accessories
