This shell still has its attractive periostractum which is a tan-brown hue. The inside of the aperture is vividly colored with a pinkish-orange blending to white at the outside extremities. There is dark brown coloration on the inside of the main body whorl. Philippine Shell member Dr. Harry Lee of San Francisco collected S. goliath during a scuba dive off Salvador, Brazil, during a recent visit to South America. While Strombus goliath is considered a rare shell in most areas, Dr. Lee reports that a number of specimens were available for sale at very reasonable prices in Brazil. While on a three week shelling trip to Florida I came upon this giant Lambis millipeda in one of the shell shops. It is 8" long, whereas the average shell is around 5-1/2 to 6 inches.
